Welcome to "Page from the Past". My mission here is to bring back a little piece of
local racing history via gracious invitation from the fine folks
at www.jeff-pearl.com. While the main focus will remain
on Waterford, we’ll take a look at many other cars & stars
from the realms of both dirt and asphalt. For those of you wild
about open-wheel cars, this site is right up your alley. Fenders
will only occasionally make an appearance here.
Then there are the photographers. You’re likely to find just about
every lens man who pointed a camera in the direction of a racecar here.
Shany Lorenzet, Rene Dugas, Steve Kennedy and John Grady are just
a few of the artisans whose work is represented here.

...one name stands out above the rest, and is continually mentioned whenever Waterford history is debated. If ever a legitimate
racing folk hero emerged from the confines of the 50+ year old facility, it'd have to be this guy.

In no more than a blink of the eye, the sport lost a great deal
of its heart and soul. Our King was gone. Richie Evans dominated Modified racing
like no man ever did before him, and probably never will again.

Continuing to compete at Waterford into the early 1960's, Slater's career would eventually lead him to the NASCAR trail,
where he'd become a multi-time champion. The Slater/V8 combination remains one of the most successful pairings in all of short track racing.

Dunn was literally the "Mr. Modified" of Waterford during the early to mid 1970's, taking down an ungodly amount of Modified victories,
and also the Championship in 1972, '73, '74, and '75.

In his "hell-bent for leather" driving style, Scrivener would quickly become a crowd favorite,
and many old-timers will tell you that a performance from "Wild Bill" on one of his better nights
would itself alone be worth the price of admission.
